How To Play
The Basics
Bocce is played with 8 large balls (4 per team) and 1 small target ball called the pallino.
Teams can be 1–4 players each.
Game Start
A coin toss decides who throws the pallino first.
The same team throws the first bocce ball, trying to get it close to the pallino.
Taking Turns
The opposing team throws next and continues throwing until they get closer to the pallino than the other team.
Then teams alternate until all 8 balls are thrown.
Scoring
After all balls are thrown, only the team with the closest ball to the pallino scores.
That team gets 1 point for each of their balls that’s closer than the opponent’s closest ball.
Games typically go to 11 or 15 points (set your house rules!).
Court Etiquette
Don’t throw while someone is standing on the court.
Avoid stepping on or across other players’ paths.
- Be a good sport — cheer each other on and have fun!
